Insulation removal and replacement in East Texas

Damp, moldy or rodent damaged insulation vacuumed out of attics and crawl spaces, the cause found, and fresh insulation put back in.

Installer removing old insulation from an attic

When old insulation is doing more harm than good

Clean, dry insulation can usually stay where it is and be topped up. Damp insulation is a different story. In a humid place with heavy rain like East Texas, attic and crawl space insulation gets wet more often than people expect: a slow roof leak, a sweating duct, a vent pipe that lost its seal, or ground moisture under a pier and beam floor. Once it stays damp, it stops insulating, can grow mold and starts to smell musty.

Rodents and squirrels nesting in old insulation cause the same kind of trouble. We pull the material out with a powerful vacuum that runs from the attic or crawl space to a truck or sealed bags outside, so none of it comes through your rooms.

Just as important, we look for why it got wet. Replacing soaked insulation without fixing the source means doing it twice. With the area cleared, we seal air leaks and install fresh insulation to the right depth.

  • Vacuum removal straight to the truck or sealed bags
  • Moisture source check so the problem does not come back
  • Droppings and debris cleared out with the old material
  • Air sealing while the attic floor is bare
  • New insulation blown in or sprayed to the right depth

Signs it is time to pull it out

Damp or stained insulation

Wet insulation loses most of its value and gives mold a place to grow.

Musty smell

A stale, earthy smell from the attic or under the floor usually means trapped moisture.

Visible mold

Dark spotting on insulation, wood or duct wrap is a sign the area has stayed wet too long.

Rodents or squirrels

Droppings, nests and tunnels mean the insulation should be replaced.

Sagging crawl space batts

Batts hanging down or lying on the ground under the house are often soaked.

Smoke damage

Insulation holds smoke odor long after a fire is out.

If yours is just thin or flattened but dry, you likely do not need removal. A blown in top up costs less. To learn more about why attics get damp here, read attic moisture in a humid climate.

How it works

Clear it, fix the cause, start fresh

01

Inspect

We find what damaged the insulation, whether a leak, condensation or pests.

02

Vacuum out

The old material goes straight to the truck or bags outside.

03

Seal

Air leaks get sealed while the surface is exposed.

04

Reinsulate

Fresh insulation goes in to the depth on your estimate.

What removal costs

Removal pricing depends on the size of the attic or crawl space, how much material is there, how tight the access is and how much cleanup it needs. Low crawl spaces under older homes take more time than a walkable attic. We quote removal and the new insulation together so you see the whole job in one number.

Rental owners: if a tenant mentions a musty smell or noises in the attic, we can schedule the work between tenants and send the estimate directly to you or your property manager.

Removal questions

Will old insulation be carried through my house?
  • No. The hose runs from the attic or crawl space directly outside.
Do you fix mold?
  • We remove moldy insulation and fix the moisture problems that fall within insulation work.
  • For mold on framing or drywall, we recommend a licensed mold remediation company.
How long does it take?
  • Most attics take a day. Tight crawl spaces or heavy contamination can take longer.
What about pests?
  • Have pest control handle the animals first so they do not move into the new insulation.
Could old insulation be hazardous?
  • Usually not. Some very old homes have vermiculite, which can contain asbestos.
  • If we find it, we stop and recommend testing before anything is disturbed.
